Accessorizing is important to me - that's why I ride a black bike. Like a little black dress, I can make it just about anything I want. Lately, what I want has been - yep - pink. When my boyfriend bought me a Rudy Project pink fluorescent helmet for my birthday, I started looking for the matching shoes. Voila!!
But - like the title of this review implies, these aren't just pretty pink shoes. The fit is extremely good, especially for someone like me with a wider instep and narrow heel. I don't get heel slip!
Both the shoes AND the helmet are extremely visible on the road. The area where I ride - Northern California's Lost Coast, aka the fog belt - can have some dim riding conditions, and I've had many people comment on how visible these shoes are because there's always contrast between them and the road and surroundings.
The sole is injected nylon - maybe not quite as stiff as a carbon sole, but plenty stiff for me even though I'm on the larger side for a female rider.
The strapbuckle system is convenient and one feature that's easy to overlook is that you can change not only the tightness but the height and angle of the instep strap. Since some shoes cut a little too high on the ankle for my taste, this is a nice feature.
These shoes compare favorably to the others in my rotation - Sidi Genius 5's. I just bought a second pair.
